Launch
Launch was the 2022 North Idaho College Graphic and Web Design portfolio show, the graduation celebration for the nine students finishing the two- year program. It ran on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 5 to 8 PM at the Jacklin Arts Center, with food, printed design work to look at, and stickers and goodies to take home. The identity treats the class as one cutaway building: nine illustrated rooms stacked into a single elevation, one per graduate, each furnished with that person's own interests and clickable through to their work.
Launch represents the graduating cohort of 2022 and the work they developed together during their time in the program.

The Concept
Why “Launch”?
The site never says where the name came from. There is no concept statement, no origin story, and no credits page. What there is, is the word used as a verb. The home page headline reads "THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING..." and the paragraph under it opens "We're launching forward! We're making an entrance and going out into the world!" before the class describes itself as "preparing to stand out and show you our fullest potential and dive into the world headfirst." The sense is departure rather than spaceflight. Nothing in the copy mentions rockets, liftoff, or orbit, and the one planet on the site sits in the window of Eric Isenberger's room because his own bio names sci- fi as his main design passion.
What the identity does with the word is put a clock on it. The first thing a visitor met was a landing overlay that hid the whole site behind the wordmark and a live day, hour, minute and second countdown, the logo cutting through navy, orange and teal in three half-second steps before the clock faded in. Underneath it, the class is a building. Nine illustrated rooms stack into one cutaway elevation on the home page, above the line "Click on one of the map icons to dive into each of our stories," and every room is a door into one graduate's page, where the same drawing returns as the banner. The rooms are furnished straight from the bios: a cello on a stand for Mya Crisanto, a tent and an easel for Amylouise Smith, a three-monitor desk for Noah Turner. The effect is nine people under one roof, with a clock running on the night they leave it.
Show Identity
The Brand Behind Launch
Cream #fff8e6 and deep navy #1e2144 carry the brand, and they run nearly tied through the stylesheets at 38 and 37 uses: cream is the type colour, the logo fill and the page ground, navy the button fill, the headings and the shadows. Golden yellow #f9c750 is held back for the year line and for panel fills. Behind those sits a warm-to-cool run of orange #f8961e, leaf green #90be6d, teal green #44aa8b, muted teal #4d908e and blue #277da1, and that run does the work of telling the nine students apart: it appears as button hover states and as the dominant hue of each student's room and profile card. The wordmark is a single vector path filled cream, LAUNCH in rough dry-brush capitals with chipped edges, and the N's right stem drops well below the baseline into a long tail that sweeps back under the whole word. Its companion line, "2022 PORTFOLIO SHOW," is one more path in gold brush script. Headlines are set in Heaters at 5em, the buttons and countdown and subheads in a self-hosted face called Blazing Sun whose outline cut is reserved for the countdown screen, with Montserrat, museo-sans and Lato behind the running text.
The page furniture is flat and soft: fully rounded buttons at a 30px radius with a 1px navy shadow, cream on navy and navy on cream, flipping to orange or teal on hover, over a home page ground that runs as a vertical gradient from leaf green into gold, and a headline that floats in a frosted panel blurred 16px and saturated 200% over 47 percent white. The drawn work is all one system. The nine rooms are Adobe Illustrator 26.2.1 exports that share an identical master swatch table, so they came out of a single source file: flat fills, thin dark outlines, furniture seen straight on. The nine profile cards repeat one construction, a flat colour ground, a cream circle behind a black-and-white cut-out portrait, loose doodles of that student's things around the edges, two blush strokes on the cheek, and the first name in white brush script across a rough paint bar. The group portrait pushes the same logic further: nine faceless colour-blocked silhouettes standing shoulder to shoulder, where hue, hair and a hat are the whole likeness. Even the event details are drawn rather than typed, with SATURDAY set vertically in teal, MAY 7 in gold, 2022 ghosted in pale cream behind it and 5-8 PM in orange. The identity was printed too, as a sheet of stickers, one per graduate plus a Launch mark, mailed on request to anyone who could not come.
